“Shipwreck” tells the story of the USS Hornet. At the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, she was irreparably damaged by enemy torpedos. Faced with an approaching Japanese surface force, Hornet was abandoned and sunk by approaching Japanese destroyers, making her the last US fleet carrier ever sunk by enemy fire. Her wreck was located in late January 2019 near the Solomon Islands. Written to be both accessible and entertaining, this show is playable with limited instrumentation and will be a great fit for a growing ensemble! Featuring “Eternal Father Strong to Save” by William Whiting and original music by Luke McMillan.
