“La Tormenta (The Storm)” is based on the concept of a developing thunderstorm and it's aftermath. This show starts quietly with dawn breaking, slight western feel. This movement has a slight Spanish feel (to tie in with the Spanish title) and ends softly--the calm before the storm. Suddenly, there is "Thunder and Lightning", a barnburner, with dissonant chords, woodwind trills and a short percussion break. Finally, the storm passes and we hear "Aftermath and Rainbow" as the skies open with some bold fanfares. There is a brief reprise of the "A Beautiful Day" theme and some big chords. There is an optional "Quiet" ending where we hear a reprise of the dawn theme, though now at sunset.
